Key takeaways from Sitecore DX Boston 2023

This year, the first of the Sitecore DX events in North America took place in Boston, Massachusetts on May 9th. There was a similar DX event held in London, UK last month.

Boston is near and dear to me as it was the first place that I landed in America back in 2005 on a snowy day in December. I always love the lively and vibrant nature of the city combined with the history and diversity that it holds. It houses some of the most famous colleges and universities in the country prominent being MIT and Harvard.

The weather was neither cold nor hot in the late 50 degrees Fahrenheit. It was set for a perfect Sitecore event in The Copley place in the heart of the city. I think that's enough about Boston!!!

There were few hundred people in attendance including Sitecore employees, customers from leading global brands, partners, and vendors.

I was lucky enough to attend the event and also be a speaker in one of the breakout sessions which was in the late afternoon.

There are few key takeaways from the event that I would like to share with you all.

Composable

As Dave O’Flanagan reiterated several times, the "future is composable". There are a lot of great sessions (Learn to define and launch composable now by Walt Rolle, EPAM) that talked about how to embrace Composable into brand's strategy and roadmap. Sitecore is adopting that composable mindset into its own products and roadmap.

XM Cloud

Resonating Steve's keynote about Sitecore being the pioneer in offering end to end SaaS products across experience, content and commerce, there were great sessions (like Modernizing your MarTech stack: How to prepare for going headless by Verndale, XM Cloud at scale: 300+ healthcare websites running at the edge by Americaneagle) that talked not only about the strategy on how to move to XM Cloud but also a real use case of a customer that moved some of its websites to XM Cloud cutting down cost and getting rid of infrastructure maintenance and future upgrades altogether.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence is more than a buzzword and it is coming at a much faster rate than we are expecting, and it is going to revolutionize digital experiences in more ways. As you may know, Steve announced the integration of ChatGPT with Sitecore products in the London event.

The (only) way to stay relevant and ahead of the game is to embrace and adopt it. This means change in vision, strategy, plan of action, and most importantly educating employees about it.

With power comes responsibility - so organizations should walk in the path with caution but be willing to take risks, learn lessons and adapt quickly.

Ann Hardley, the Chief Content Officer had few interesting takes on AI:

  • Invest in AI
  • Be a change agent
  • Embrace it
I highly recommend downloading her great eBook and reading it which talks about 4 smart digital strategies.

Search

Sitecore announced that it is going to invest and market heavily in Sitecore Search. Sitecore Search is an AI driven SaaS search engine which powers your websites and other applications. Though there were no sessions that specifically focused on Search in this event, I am sure you can expect a lot of sessions in the future Sitecore events.

Finally, as with any Sitecore event, I had the opportunity to:
  1. meet and make new friends and spend quality time
  2. learn really cool things about the industry and the product
  3. network and collaborate to gain different perspectives
This 1-day event is perfect for me and am sure for other people who attended the event.

I hope you found this blog post useful and informative.

Happy Reading!
